Climb Preparation

The BridgeClimb experience begins with a comprehensive briefing and safety demonstration

Climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge was so amazing. Believe it. Anyone who visits Sydney, must, must and must try it. I will remember it for a lifetime.

Alcohol Breath Test & Declaration Form
After check-in, Climbers are required to sign a declaration form and take a compulsory alcohol breath test. You must register a blood-alcohol level of under 0.05%. If your blood-alcohol level exceeds this limit, you will not be able to Climb and your booking will be cancelled.

Lockers
As part of your preparation, you will be provided with a BridgeSuit to wear over your clothes. Any extra clothing and personal items can be stored in BridgeClimb's secure and free lockers. Certain items are not allowed on the BridgeClimb and before commencing your Climb you will be required to pass through a metal detector.

Safety Gear
Safety is BridgeClimb's number-one priority. Depending on weather conditions, you'll be issued with the following specially designed equipment to aid your Climb:

  • Safety Harness - attaches you to a static line at all times during your Climb, ensuring a totally safe Climb experience
  • BridgeSuit - a carefully designed Climbing suit worn straight over the top of your own clothing
  • Communications Equipment - a radio and comfortable headset so you can hear the commentary of your Climb Leader
  • BridgeLamp - a head-mounted caving lamp that illuminates your path on NightClimbs
  • Lanyards - to attach your glasses or sunglasses to your BridgeSuit
  • BridgeFleece - a warm fleecy jacket to act as an insulating layer during cold weather
  • WeatherShell - a weather-proof barrier layer for use during wet or windy conditions
  • Overpants - a barrier layer for extra protection in wet or windy conditions
  • Headwear - warm head-and-ear protection for use in cold weather
  • BridgeGloves - warm gloves for improved comfort in cold conditions

Communication Equipment
All Climbers are issued with a radio headset receiver. This state-of-the-art equipment was designed for clarity and allows you to hear the ambient sounds of Sydney while still hearing your Climb Leader's safety instructions, along with a fascinating and detailed commentary on the history of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the city of Sydney.

BridgeSuit
The BridgeSuit you'll be wearing as you scale the Sydney Harbour Bridge is a result of 18 months of rigorous research. After testing 97 different sample suits, developers settled on a design that is comfortable, performs in all weather conditions and looks good - an important consideration since everyone is photographed in it!
The suits help camouflage Climbers on the Bridge so they don't distract traffic. Two shades of grey were chosen to match the Bridge, and a blue stripe was added for effect. The suit was adapted to flatter most body types, with an improved fit around the waist, ankles and wrists.
The fabric chosen for the job is called MCS Blocker, a tear-resistant, 100% nylon material that features Nano-Dry technology which draws moisture away from the body, keeping you cool and dry. The fabric has a UV-protection factor rating of 40+. Vents allow you to adjust the air flow through the suit. There are also attachment points for caps, beanies and sunglasses.

Climb Simulator
Before your Climb, you will participate in a Climb simulation to give you a feel for conditions on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. BridgeClimb's professionally trained Climb Leaders will introduce you to ladder and stair procedures, and the use of your harness.

BridgeClimb: The best of what's on in Sydney.
