A BridgeClimb gives people the once-in-a-lifetime experience of standing at the summit of one of the world’s greatest icons – the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The inspiration behind this incredible experience is businessman Paul Cave. After successfully organising a group climb as part of the Young Presidents Organisation World Congress in 1989, Paul decided that the climb was one of the most incredible things to do in Sydney, and more people deserved to experience it. He took on the huge challenge of bringing BridgeClimb to the public.

Nine years later, on 1 October 1998, BridgeClimb launched the first public Climbs to the world. It soon became the number one thing to do in Sydney. At a press conference attended by 300 supporters, the media, Bridge workers and descendents of chief engineer JJC Bradfield, NSW Roads Minister Carl Scully declared BridgeClimb open. Media coverage was widespread. The city gave us a hearty welcome and this warm embrace has continued.

BridgeClimb brings together so many of the great icons of Sydney: the Bridge, the Harbour and the Opera House, in an exciting and unique experience for Sydneysiders and visitors alike.

Sydney Lord Mayor Frank Sartor

In the first three days of 2003, over 4000 people scaled the Bridge and, on 14 April 2003, we welcomed our one millionth paying Climber. Today over two million locals and international visitors have climbed the Bridge with us, and many rank it as the most memorable thing to do in Sydney.

But we haven’t stopped there. In October 2002 we introduced Twilight and Dawn Climbs. Our latest improvements to the BridgeClimb experience have been upgrading our photographic equipment and completely redesigning our famous BridgeSuits for better comfort, style and performance.

In late 2006 we opened our most exciting improvement yet - The Discovery Climb. The Discovery Climb takes Climbers deep into the workings of the Bridge, making it one of the most intrepid things to do in Sydney.
